One Asian American graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) caused a bit of a stir recently after she shared her experience using an artificial intelligence (AI) image generator to edit a photo of herself, with a pretty questionable outcome. Rona Wang, who has been experimenting with AI prompts and image generators, shared on X (formerly Twitter) how her face had been transformed entirely into that of a white woman's after she told the platform Playground AI to transform her selfie into a "professional LinkedIn profile photo". This incident is only one of several others in which AI platforms have displayed stereotyping and racial bias, and experts have admitted to such models deriving such behavior from data derived from across the Internet
