The Lancet, half of the world's population is due to experience some sort of mental disorder by the age of 75. In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that there were nearly a billion individuals who'd been living with some sort of mental disorder, and that statistic has only worsened since the COVID-19 pandemic, where there was a 25-percent increase in depression and anxiety cases during the pandemic's first year. “This lends weight to the need to invest in basic neuroscience to understand why these disorders develop, as well as mental health services that have a particular focus on young people," said professor John McGrath of the University of Queensland
