President Ebrahim Raisi has said that the hijab is “a legal matter” in Iran after a viral video appeared to show a man throwing yoghurt at two uncovered women in a shop near a holy Shia Muslim city. Judicial authorities in a town near the northeastern city of Mashhad ordered the arrest of two women, a mother and her daughter, for flouting Iran’s strict female dress rules and “committing a forbidden act”, state media reported on Saturday.
