Neuralink, founded in 2016, is working on a brain implant to restore movement to the paralyzed and treat other neurological disorders.Based on a review of dozens of Neuralink documents and interviews with more than 20 current and former employees, Reuters has concluded that the investigation coincides with rising employee dissent regarding Neuralink's animal testing, including complaints that pressure from CEO Elon Musk to accelerate development has resulted in botched experiments. When asked whether or not the government inquiry covered the same alleged flaws with animal testing revealed by employees in Reuters interviews, the USDA inspector general's office spokesman chose not to comment. However, present and former Neuralink staff have stated that the number of animal deaths is higher than it should be due to Musk's desire to expedite research. In one case, the investigation found four tests involving 86 pigs and two monkeys that were tainted by human errors in recent years through a combination of business talks, papers spanning several years, and staff interviews."
