New nose successfully grown on French woman's arm

TL;DR

More than ten years after being treated for nasal cavity cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) with radiation and chemotherapy, the patient who lives in southern France is the first person in the world to have received a nasal graft made of synthetic biomaterial and produced by a 3D printer. The procedure was led by Professor Agnès Dupret-Bories and Doctor Benjamin Vairel, specialists in cancers of the mouth, tongue and facial skin.In 2020, Ms. Dupret-Bories, a CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) researcher at the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche et d’ingénierie des matériaux (CIRIMAT, Interuniversity Center of Research into materials and engineering), who specializes in biomaterials, encountered Islam Bouabaz-Abdeljalil.The Cerhum company was already involved in facial bone reconstruction, using unique parts."For its shape and size, we worked on the patient's surgical data, which we have been following for a long time," said Dr. Vairel."
