Finnish authorities have seized three jet planes which are suspected to have been used by the Vantaa-based firm Polar Aviation in violation of EU sanctions on Russia, according to Yle's investigation unit MOT.In an investigation last spring, MOT found (article in Finnish) that the jets Polar Aviation used are owned by a Russian businessman.Links to sanctioned hockey mogulThe Enforcement Authority's decision to seize the planes may be linked to Polar Aviation's connections with Russian-Finnish oligarch Gennady Timchenko, who is on EU and US sanctions lists.MOT reported in April that Timchenko had done business with the Finnish aviation firm, suggesting that the oligarch had paid the company for maintenance on his helicopter.However, Polar Aviation has denied having links to Timchenko, who owns about 22.5 percent of the now-closed Helsinki Arena."
