At least 40 people killed in bridge collapse in IndiaThe 230-metre bridge was built during British rule in the 19th century and was recently reopened to the public after renovations.More than 400 people were on the bridge over the Machhu River in the town of Morbi on Sunday at the time of the collapse, local TV channel Zee News reported.Journalist Bhargav Parikh, based in Ahmedabad, told Al Jazeera many tourists were in Gujarat because of religious holidays.The bridge is a tourist attraction that draws many sight-seers during the festive season when Diwali and Chhath Puja are celebrated.Less than a week later 30 people were killed when a footbridge over a river in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh collapsed."
